The Alpha Capricornids, a shower known for producing occasional bright fireballs, began its annual run on July 7 and will continue until August 13. In addition to the two showers peaking this week, the highly anticipated Perseid meteor shower, often hailed as the year's most impressive, also began its annual performance on July 17 and will last through the end of the month. Under optimal conditions—a dark, clear sky—the Perseids can produce between 50 to 100 meteors per hour.

However, visibility for all these celestial events may be affected by the bright light of the Buck Moon, which reaches its full phase on Wednesday, July 29. The intense moonlight can wash out fainter meteors, making it harder to spot the shooting stars. For those hoping to catch the Alpha Capricornids, experts recommend waiting until later in the night when the radiant is higher in the sky and the moon has set. The best viewing times for the Southern Delta Aquariids are in the early morning hours, particularly around 3 a.m., when hourly rates can reach an estimated five to ten meteors. It is worth noting that meteor shower activity can vary significantly based on atmospheric conditions, moonlight intensity, and geographic location. In the Southern Hemisphere, where the radiant of the Southern Delta Aquariids is positioned overhead, observers might see between 10 to 20 meteors per hour, though these figures are also subject to environmental factors.
